Reis Asphalt Inc. has paved many community laneways for a group of neighbors or a private association. We can pave the laneway with traditional asphalt, and we also offer a selection of natural rustic options. We have experience handling the the complexity that goes along having many involved parties and can usually help to streamline the process.
Traditional Asphalt
If you are looking for something durable and maintenance free, we always recommend traditional asphalt. If you are looking for a more rustic look with the same durability, Reis Asphalt, Inc. has a proprietary method to “age” your new lane way and make it gray instead of black. This process gives our customers all the benefits of a brand new asphalt lane way without that stark “just paved” look of new asphalt. The cost is just slightly more than traditional asphalt.
Recycled Asphalt Product (R.A.P.)
Middle of the Road: A great low-cost, durable solution that is also eco-friendly. R.A.P. is made of recycled asphalt that is ground into gravel-sized pellets. What is interesting about this product is that the summer heat will work to release the binders and oils found in the recycled asphalt, essentially melting the gravel pavement together which increases the strength. Recycled Asphalt Product also makes for easier plowing in the winter compared to gravel or stone. One of the best aspects of R.A.P. is that it can serve as a base layer if the customer decides to pave the lane way with traditional asphalt in the future, therefore breaking up the total cost in 2 phases. R.A.P. works well within long community laneways and private associations.
Gravel Laneways (least expensive)
Gravel laneways are very affordable and can be quickly installed. A gravel lane way can last for many years, if installed correctly. We are very diligent with installing a durable base that is graded properly with the water draining away. One of the most important aspects to a durable gravel lane way is to create a gullies on either side of the lane way which act as “gutters” to carry the water away. Keep in mind that gravel is not a solid surface and may need some maintenance along the way. However, with our installation method, we minimize the need for maintenance. On the other hand, gravel is very eco friendly due to its pervious nature. You can also top dress the gravel lane way with stone or seashells.
Macadam, Chipseal, Tar and Chip
Get the look and feel of a Natural Country Road. Macadam, Chipseal, and Tar and Chip are common names to describe a process in which natural stone is embedded into gravel using hot oil. At Reis Asphalt, we take it a step further and also offer the option to embed the stone in existing asphalt or brand new asphalt. The end result is a beautiful natural stone lane way that has the durability of asphalt. This is a great option for community members that want a unique-looking lane way, but don’t want to invest a lot of time in the maintenance and upkeep required by traditional stone solutions.
